About the Seattle Metropolitan Singers

The Seattle Metropolitan Singers “The Met” is an adult choir that performs choral music within the soprano and alto ranges If you sing in the treble range, we invite you to join us! The season runs from September through early June. We have two large performances in December and June, with smaller concerts in between.

Laurie de Leonne is our artistic director.

ABOUT OUR LEADERSHIP

Laurie de Leonne is a spirited conductor of creative connection who fosters community through collaborative singing; both community within the choir as well as between the choir and the greater community. To this end, she builds ensembles and instigates collaborative musical adventures of all kinds. She founded the newly formed Eastside Midday Singers and the established Redmond Chorale, directs the Women’s University Club Chorus of Seattle and the North Seattle College Choir, and a vocalist and multi instrumentalist in the rock cover band “Phase 5.” Laurie’s music has been commissioned internationally and her compositions are published by Walton/GIA, Santa Barbara Music Publishers, and her own Dandelion Music Press. Many of her pieces are featured in Project: Encore’s vetted catalog of contemporary post-premiere choral compositions and two pieces were semifinalist and finalist in their divisions for The American Prize. She is past-president of the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium, the initial conductor of project-based Summer Fling Vocal Ensemble, a performer and instructor at CAZ NW Family Performing Arts Camp, and a guest vocalist with Emerald Ensemble and Choral Arts Northwest.

Nathan Shiu is our collaborative pianist.

Nathan is a local pianist, singer, and music educator (specializing in teaching voice) based in Bellevue and serving the Greater Seattle Area. His interest in music began at an early age, starting with piano around the age of seven, and continuing to this day. Nathan earned a B.A. in Music (emphasis in Composition) from Whitman College in 2005. After graduating, he served as Staff Accompanist for Whitman College's Music Department for eight years, the last three years of which he also served as an Adjunct Voice Teacher. This experience of teaching singing spurred Nathan to pursue a Master's degree (emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy) which he earned in May of 2015 from Washington State University's School of Music. He has since moved back to the Greater Seattle Area and is continuing to establish his presence as a musician and music educator.

In addition to his duties with MCE, Nathan accompanies the Bellevue Youth Choirs, is Church Musician at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in Sammamish, teaches voice through Play at Work, and occasionally works as music director with Youth Theatre Northwest as projects come up. Nathan also teaches and tutors piano, voice and music theory privately.
